IDEA System follows a structured approach to the assessment of internal doses from monitoring data is defined by the IDEAS Guidelines.

The structured approach consists of a series of “Stages”, broadly corresponding to the Levels of task given in the IDEAS Guidelines. Each Stage consists of a series of “Steps”, and is presented diagrammatically in a flow chart, with a brief explanation of each Step in the text.  Detailed descriptions of aspects of the evaluation process are given here.
