Examples for overestimation of dose
In the case of whole-body retention of inhaled Cs-137 (typ F, 5 µm AMAD) the exposure is overestimated by the old models, and so the assessment result in a conservative dose assessment. The same holds for the excretion of inhaled Th-228 (type S, 5 µm AMAD).
The new ICRP recommendations are based on an extensive review of data on inhalation, ingestion, and systemic biokinetics and thus the new models represent in general a better approximation to reality than the previous models.
